Ballari is a historic city situated in the border of Andhra pradesh. Ballari, today is regarded as head-quarter of higher education for Middle East part of Karnataka. It is the place of the great artist Ballari Raghava who was admired by George Bernard Shah for his paramount acting. His remarkable contribution for the art is unique and exemplary.Hundred years ago, a few visionaries analyzed the then situation of North Karnataka and established the Veerasaiva Vidyavardhaka Sangha (VVS) at Ballari.

Today it is regarded as headquarter of higher education for Eastern part of Karnataka i.e. Ballari, Raichur, Koppal and Chitradurga. The V.V. Sangha, Ballari is a Private Educational society registered under the Society’s Registration ACT.XX1 OF 1860, NO 1 of 1917-1918 dated 07 th March1918 .The initial objective of the Sangha was to provide facilities of quality education to all the people of this region irrespective of caste and creed.
Kotturswamy College of Education is a grant-in-aid college established in 1963 and presently affiliated to Vijayanagar Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Ballari. The institution has dedicated itself to the service of society by educating teachers and preparing professional educators for all levels for five decades. Over 5500 students have completed B.Ed. from this institution. Nearly 80 students have been awarded M.Ed. Degree. The college has been upgraded as ‘College of Teacher Education’ (C.T.E.) by the M.H.R.D since 1997-98. The college has also been recognized as Programme Center for IGNOU B.Ed.
We constantly make attempts to improve the quality and content of education to maintain the standards of excellence. We endeavor to instill in teachers the urge to be creative and innovative inspiring the student fraternity to strive for equity and social justice. We have a positive attitude to experimentation and innovation. We encourage interactive, improved teaching learning practices. We appreciate an overgrowing sensitivity to community and global concerns. We have been able to impart developmental and evolving characteristic to the institution by our efforts in all aspects.
ABOUT OUR COLLEGE
The VeeresaivaVidyavardhakaSangha, Ballari, is a registered educational Body, which has been working for the educational uplift of the youth in this backward area by running four Elementary Schools, four High Schools, three Composite Junior Colleges, Six First Grade Colleges, two Engineering Colleges, two Pharmacy Colleges, one MBA College and Polytechnic. The starting of Kotturswamy College of Education in the year 1963 is the most outstanding and significant contribution in this field and testifies to the foresight and sense of service and sacrifice of the Sangha that has ventured upon a postgraduate professional institution, a Teacher’s Training College.
This has been made possible by the generaosity of Jagadguru Sri SriSriKotturswamiji who has created, by Trust Deed, a permanent endowment of 464 acres of land, valued at Rs. One lakh, in favour of the Sangha, for the exclusive benefit of the college which is apply named after him.
With the democratization and universalization of education at all levels and with hundreds of new schools springing up every year, the necessity for a professional College like ours, needs no emphasis. We feel that only a trained teacher has any place in a school and he alone can fully play his part in moulding the youth of our country for shouldering the vast responsibilities that face the nation. Unfortunately the dearth of trained teachers is actually felt all over the country and this problem has to be tackled on a mass scale and quickly too Hence this bold venture of the VeeresaivaVidyaVardhakaSangha, in starting the Kotturswamy College of Education.
This college is affiliated to Mysore University, Mysore, at the beginning and later on affiliated to Karnatak University, Dharwad, and later on Gulbarga University, Gulbarga, at present affiliated to VijayanagaraSri Krishnadevaraya University, Ballari.
